2024 President’s Letter

Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests, and beloved members of our vibrant community,

It is with immense joy and pride that I extend to you the warmest of welcomes to our 30th annual India Cultural Festival! Today marks yet another milestone in our journey of celebrating the richness and diversity of Indian culture right here in Portland.

For nearly three decades, our association has been privileged to host this extraordinary event, serving as a beacon of cultural unity and celebration for all who call this wonderful city home. Each year, this festival serves as a testament to the enduring bonds that tie us together as a community, regardless of our backgrounds or origins.

One of the most cherished aspects of our festival is undoubtedly the culinary journey it offers. As you wander through our stalls adorned with a plethora of spices and aromas, you'll find yourself tantalized by the mouthwatering array of Indian delicacies prepared by skilled hands with love and tradition. From savory samosas to fragrant biryanis, our festival offers a feast for the senses that promises to transport you to the streets of India without ever leaving Portland.

But our celebration doesn't stop at the palate; it extends to the stage, where our local artists, with their boundless talent and passion, weave together a tapestry of mesmerizing performances that showcase the vibrant tapestry of Indian culture. From classical dances to soul-stirring music, each act is a testament to the richness and diversity of our heritage, reminding us of the beauty that lies in our collective stories and traditions.

As you immerse yourself in the festivities today, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the significance of this gathering. Beyond the colors and flavors that surround us, this festival is a celebration of unity, friendship, and the shared values that bind us together as a community. It is a reminder that in a world often divided by differences, it is our shared humanity that truly unites us.

Similar to the rising India movement that is based on fresh and new ideas, we are experimenting with this year’s event at a new venue. We will have a picnic-style event in a large grass field, a splash fountain for kids to cool off, and dozens of vendors offering food, arts, crafts, clothes, and other services.

Once again, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for joining us in this celebration. May this festival be a source of joy, inspiration, and cherished memories for years to come.
